Learning Log - Objective Setting
|
 |
| |
There are three particular points to consider when setting objectives. First, make them as S.M.A.R.T. as possible. In other words
- Specific : not just a vague aspiration. Spell out specifically what your goal is.
- Measurable : so that you can see clearly when you have achieved your goal by simple measurement.
- Achievable : be realistic about what you can achieve.
- Relevant : your goals should fit well with your overall career or personal ambitions.
- Time based : set yourself a deadline.
Second, take into account the changing needs of the environment/industry that you live and work in. This will help you set some practical priorities. In what areas do you really NEED to set some objectives?
Finally, share your thinking about work / career goals with your manager or mentor. Get a second view on their appropriateness for you and your situation.
