The Senior Civil Engineer manages contracted civil engineers in collaboration with project management consultants to monitor project work and progress. Supervises the activities of the external civil engineers, related to the design and development of technical specifications for the construction of civil engineering projects, approving required calculations, reviewing project drawings, participating in on-site investigations, and advising on civil engineering issues. Key Responsibilities Supervise design and development of detailed technical drawings and technical specifications for the construction of civil engineering projects Signs off purchase specifications Supervise tests on the bearing capacity of the soil, evaluate drainage conditions Monitor concept development of possible environmental impacts (soil run-off, toxic waste, etc.) caused by construction and monitor use of suitable configurations of the basic structural components of a building Approve required calculations (i.e. calculate the stresses that a component is likely to experience from other parts of the structure or external pressures, such as wind) Review project drawings Approve choice of construction materials (i.e. bricks, concrete, steel, and wood) Participate in on-site investigations of contractors and advise on civil engineering issues Coordinate external civil engineers Coordinate with other engineering speciality
