Loss Prevention Engineer

1. Coordinates and directs fire and safety studies and recommends loss control methods for industrial, hydrocarbon or chemical facilities.
2. Focus areas may include process safety management, corporate safety management, system development and implementation, quantitative and qualitative risk assessment, hazard identification, HAZOP studies, safety performance benchmarking, safe operating procedures and standards, and corporate safety training.
3. Reviews new projects and planned modifications to existing facilities so as to ensure conformance to fire and safety engineering standards and codes.
4. Assists operating organizations in the development and implementation of effective safety programs.
5. Develops and/or updates corporate safety and fire prevention engineering standards, codes, and procedures for application in the company.
6. Participates in the measurement and evaluation of existing loss prevention programs, standards or procedures and recommends improvements.
7. Develops and promotes on- and off-job safety educational material and for company employees.

Status: Staff
Required Skills/Experience: 1. Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g., safety/fire, chemical, mechanical, civil), or a related physical science.
2. Extensive experience in the petrochemical or similar industries.
3. Loss prevention/fire prevention engineering experience in areas such as: process safety management, safety management system development and implementation, incident/injury prevention, safety in plant designs, hazard identification, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, safe operating procedures and standards, behavioral safety programs, and incident investigation.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of loss prevention engineering practices and economic principles, calculation methods, and industry fire and safety codes, standards and specifications, such as those under OSHA, NFPA, NEC, API and ANSI.
5. Certifications, such as Professional Engineer, Certified Safety Professional, and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, are desirable but not required.
