Position: Senior Consultant Engineer

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Business Unit: Operations team / Consulting UK

Position Purpose

To work within the Consulting Operations Team to provide a first class electrical design, specification, technical advisor, project engineering and consultancy service to the global renewable energy sector.

Customers

Renewable energy project developers, regulatory authorities, equipment suppliers, trade associations, local/regional/national governments.

Scope

You will be responsible for delivering electrical system design and power system analysis consultancy services across Senergy Econnect’s client base. This may include all key aspects of design, system analysis, specification, evaluation, implementation and operation of grid integration of renewable energy, from <1MW up to and exceeding 1GW, connected at voltage levels from 240V up to 400kV and beyond. The post holder will spend most of the time in the office, but will be expected to undertake visits to customers and sites in the UK and overseas as appropriate.

The main challenges of the role include

• To be conversant with the detailed design, systems analysis, specification, construction and operation of EHV / HV / MV / LV electrical networks, substations and the plant/equipment (switchgear, cables, overhead lines, transformers, protection and earthing) associated with the grid integration of renewable energy generation projects.
• To be able to liaise with clients to understand their project needs and subsequently prepare appropriate scopes of work to meet those needs.
• To be able to write, review and approve relevant consultancy reports, studies and calculations (e.g. optimised sizing and specification of switchgear, cables, overhead lines and transformers; co-ordination of protection settings; calculation of step and touch potentials etc.) as required to achieve the grid integration of renewable energy generation projects.
• To be able to identify, develop, and ultimately successfully negotiate the integration of innovative generation site and grid connection designs with network operators and primary generation plant manufacturers to gain the best value solutions for our clients.
• To be able to produce technical and strategic reports as part of electrical system design studies and national regulatory / policy / standards development.
• To be able to prepare detailed transmission and distribution plant specifications.
• To be able to conduct Design Risk Assessments / HAZOPs and co-ordinate the production of Health and Safety Files.
• To be able to work to tight deadlines, lead and manage multiple concurrent projects and demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and have a flexible disposition.
• To be able to mentor and train Consultant and Graduate Engineers as required
• To be able to demonstrate excellent IT skills utilising the full range of Microsoft Office Packages.
• To be able to demonstrate good capabilities in utilising industry standard electrical system design packages.
• To be able to present and implement ideas for the improvement of Senergy Econnect processes and working practices.



Status: Staff
Required Skills/Experience: Principal Accountabilities

• Work closely with the Consulting Operations team and clients to meet and deliver client requirements in an efficient manner that meets the standards expected by Senergy Econnect.
• Maintain first class client relationships.
• Lead and supervise major technical advisory, electrical system design, Transmission & Distribution plant/equipment specification, project engineering and consultancy service projects and to deliver them on time and within cost constraints.
• Liaise with clients to interpret requirements, develop scopes of works and budgets and support the sales and business development in the preparation of proposals.
• Work closely with the Operations Manager to implement a programme of in-house development for Senergy Econnect operational staff.
• Development and writing of QA standards, procedures and method statements, as necessary.
• Carry out all duties and work in accordance with the quality systems procedures operated by the Company.

Desired Skills/Experience: Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills

• Chartered Engineer status or progressing is advantageous
• Significant experience working in electrical power engineering / electrical network system environment.
• Experience in using Power System modelling packages advantageous, especially Digsilent, PSSE/Sincal, PSCAD, IPSA, CDEGS
• Knowledge of control systems and SCADA package applications advantageous.
• Experience in project through-life costing and reliability assessments advantageous.
• Strong communication skills, such as, report writing and presenting
• Track record of delivering multi-disciplinary technical projects to time and on budget.
• Well honed inter-personal and organisational skills
• Ability to prioritise demanding workloads and pay attention to detail
• Be self motivated, enthusiastic and a team player

Required Qualifications: • Engineering Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering

Remuneration: 30000 - 50000 UK Pounds/year
