Our Client is looking for a Mechanical/Process Engineer. This is an ongoing contract position, based in Mexico City, with some travel to Calgary, Canada. Please note candidates MUST have previous experience on major oil-sands projects.

As Mechanical/Process Engineer, you will be responsible for broad-based support of detailed design of the Slurry Prep Plant that is a major portion of the Ore Preparation Plant for a major oilsands project. This work is being conducted in Mexico City.

Responsibilities:
Coordinating/communicating various issues among the engineering and execution team that affect the design, operation, safety, and regulatory compliance of equipment and facilities.
Perform review of technical work products (mechanical, process, piping, and HVAC) by EPC Contractor and sub-contractors as well as coordinate reviews by other discipline engineers.
Evaluate/comment on work performed by the EPC Contractor, sub-contractors, and Long Lead Equipment vendors to insure that the work is being executed in accordance with project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure that contract specification verification is performed according to plan.
Identify and assess deviations to Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements.
Steward the process for handling requests for information from the Contractor and sub-contractors.
Keep the Engineering Supervisor informed of progress, deviations, and other project execution concerns.
Participate in project reviews at EPC Contractor's locations.
Ensure that HAZOP and Model Review findings are addressed by the EPC Contractor/sub-contractor.
Review and verify engineering progress by the EPC Contractors/sub-contractors office as reported the monthly progress report.

Assist in stewarding the EPC contractor's activities with respect to detailed design including:
Ensure that all affected parties are familiar with engineering execution plans, procedures, objectives, and overall job requirements.
Ensure that the contractor staffs the project with adequate numbers of qualified personnel.
Ensure that the contractor employs the appropriate design tools, including computer hardware and software.
Ensure that the contractor adheres to all appropriate specifications and standards.
Ensure that the contractor provides all contract documents, including those referred to in the job spec.
Reinforce the requirement for the contractor to control the work, i.e. accurate and timely progress measurement and reporting.

Knowledge/qualifications/skills and experience:
Design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria.
Onshore facilities and structures design, construction, and operations.
Engineering administration.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering or equivalent.
Extensive closely related professional experience, including previous experience at project engineering/engineering management level.
Strong organizational, management, and technical judgement skills.
Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.
Ability to speak Spanish desirable but not required.
