Our Client is looking for a Machinery/Rotating Equipment Engineer. This is a contract position of approximately 2 years duration, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Please note candidates MUST be eligible to work in Canada, and must have substantial previous experience of working on major oilsands projects. Function: As Machinery/Rotating Equipment Engineer, you will be responsible for broad technical oversight of the Detailed Design contractor's rotating equipment engineering effort. Responsibilities: Provide overall rotating equipment engineering leadership and expertise. Oversee the Detailed Design contractor's production of the machinery deliverables per the Project Design Basis and Project Management Plan within project budget and schedule. Assist with all aspects related to machinery selection, design, installation, commissioning and start-up planning. Conduct project team member briefing sessions with respect to machinery engineering requirements and processes. Prepare and submit engineering progress data, including narratives, charts, graphs, etc. on machinery engineering issues to the Engineering Supervisor as required. Provide machinery engineering input for Hazard and Operability (HAZOPS) reviews. Provide machinery engineering input for Risk Management activities, as appropriate. Review Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for safe and operable features. Capture and communicate machinery engineering lessons learned for the project. Advise the Detailed Design contractor's mechanical engineering and design organization with respect to: Equipment data sheet completeness and accuracy. Machinery engineering studies and analyses. Inspection and test plans, including plans for Factory Acceptance Tests (FATS) and Site Integration Tests (SITs). Steward the Detailed Design contractor's activities with respect to machinery engineering execution including: Ensuring that all affected parties are familiar with Detailed Design execution plans, procedures, objectives, and job requirements as they relate to machinery. Ensuring that the contractor staffs the project with adequate numbers of qualified personnel. Ensuring that the contractor employs the appropriate design tools, including computer hardware and software. Qualifications and experience required: Extensive knowledge of: Mechanical/machinery design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria. Onshore facilities mechanical/machinery design, fabrication, transportation, commissioning and start-up. Engineering verification and equipment design audit requirements. Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Substantial closely related professional eng. experience, some of which should be at the Senior Machinery Engineer level. Extensive experience as Lead Machinery Engineer of a large project or major operating area. Owner/Operator Company experience or equivalent is strongly preferred. Capable of developing procedures for testing, installation, commissioning and start-up. Capable of developing requirements for operating, maintenance and inspection procedures. Capable of verifying work is consistent with good design practices, realistic operating assumptions, and low life cycle costs. Capable of developing detailed equipment specifications including pre-commissioning, testing and assessing vendor qualifications and quality programs.
