Participates in planning, organizes work methods and procedures, makes independent decisions within own sphere, usually exercising high technical authority over a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists. The main emphasis of this position is on daily process control applications and to improve the operating efficiency of the Plant. This is done by constantly being aware of the operational performance, the control systems changes and utilization of the process control applications at Long Lake. The Senior Process Control Engineer has the responsibility of promoting and justifying those projects which improve safety, operability and flexibility or are seen to have high economic viability. This requires an in depth understanding of the complexity of the total process, the inter-relationships of the various process parameters, the chemistry of the process and its dynamics. Job Duties/Responsibilities: - Provide specialized day to day and long range engineering services of process controls for the achievement of operating objectives and the solution of specific problems - Develop and monitor process control applications and provide troubleshooting and enhancements as required by production, maintenance and engineering personnel, and produce or update associated documentation. - Identify opportunities where process control applications will improve process efficiency and operational consistency. - Participate in planning by providing original and ingenious approaches to the practical and economical solution of problems; Achieve timely completion of identified projects and identify areas where process control can maximize plant process efficiency. - Within own specialized sphere, direct research into new solutions, processes or methods; - Interpret and evaluate data obtained from various sources; - Develop detailed project scope, cost estimates and benefits to justify PC projects, secure funding. Implement and manage budget and schedule of justified projects. - Support Turnaround planning and execution; - Oversee and ensure that contractors assigned to your responsibility meet quality, cost and schedule targets. - Collect and analyze process data, perform step testing, identify key (control, deviation, and manipulated) variables, and develop process control models for all operating modes. - Continuously evaluate the existing process control systems for reliability of control and effectiveness. - Assist operating and maintenance personnel on hardware, software, analysis and optimization issues relative to process control. - Serve as the technical expert for the Long Lake site in the fields of Advanced Process Control, Alarm Management and Operator DCS Interface Optimization, and provide mentorship and guidance for less experienced engineers and specialists. - Provide day-to-day technical support on process control systems and process control related tasks - Keep well informed of the latest technological developments relating to process controls. Required Skills/Experience:
|
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Applied Science or its equivalent, with more than 20 years of diversified process plants support-development and/or design experience from the graduation level either as client, consultant or contractor. - 10+ years plant site experience as a process control engineer in a continuous hydrocarbon process facility. - 15 years experience in DCSs and PLCs. - Process control and advanced control engineering specialization is highly desired - Versed in process control simulation, modeling and identification, linear and non linear multivariable control and optimization techniques. - Versed in current industry standards and recommended practices and a practical sense in applying such references. - Demonstrated basic and advanced process control system skills . - Strong organization planning and new infrastructure development skills. - Must have strong MS Office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access & Outlook);
