Senior Drilling Engineer

The Position

The senior drilling engineer will be working in the International Drilling Operations section and reporting to the International Operations Team Leader.

This senior drilling engineering position is vital in the company’s organisational set-up, important for our client’s continued growth and carries responsibility for both planning and subsequent follow-up during execution of some very challenging wells around the world, some of them in hostile and deep water environment.

You will become part of a small team presently consisting of a number of Drilling Engineers with broad technical backgrounds, where it is expected that several operations could be ongoing at the same time, either at planning stage or at execution stage.

The Position

The work will entail detailed operations planning, well planning and subsequent technical support during the execution of exploration and appraisal wells in areas around the world where our client currently has licenses. Such areas would include West Africa, South America, Middle East, possibly Gulf of Mexico and any other area, where the company would be engaged in either onshore or off-shore operations.

Detailed well will include, insuring accurate pore pressure/fracture gradient analyses are performed, well design, AFE costs, tubular and wellhead design including assistance with tendering, procurement, coordinating and insuring accuracy of directional well plans, drilling fluids design, shallow hazards and completion of reports, etc. Work also includes close liaison with exploration & appraisal well teams to insure geological and geophysical goals are realistically planned and attainable.
Operations planning will include assistance with all relevant issues such as, logistics, incl. boat and helicopter services where applicable, environmental issues, authority approvals, etc.

Other responsibilities include capturing lessons learned and best practices for sharing with other members of the drilling community and inclusion into future programs. Staying abreast of emerging new technologies and bringing them forth for incorporation into well design and operations is also a key component of this job.

Necessary Experience

The individual would have an engineering degree, or similar educational background.
The successful applicant must have extensive experience working as a senior Drilling Engineer.
Experience with deepwater and sub salt drilling operations would be very advantageous.
