Our Client has a vacancy for a Geotechnical Engineer. This is a contract position, based in Calgary, Canada. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and have extensive oil sands project experience.Candidates must have an MS Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or a BSc Degree in Civil Engineering, with a Geotechnical focus. You will also have extensive relevant oil sands project/operating experience - this is essential. Over 50% of your role will involve site visits. Candidates should be qualified in the following: Foundation design, installation and testing experience: Driven pipe and h-piles, cast-in-place concrete piles, screwpiles, and shallow foundations. Static load tests, Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) tests, Osterberg-Cell tests. Proven communication skills and the ability to manage multiple interfaces, such as our Client's Calgary home office, the construction management team, engineering contractor, construction contractor, and the foundation quality assurance contractor. Must be able to support the Calgary home office with other geotechnical site support such as slope stability, road design, and site preparation. Work may also involve mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall design and construction. As Geotechnical Engineer, you will represent our Client's interests on site, with respect to: Safety and environmental management assistance over the course of construction by way of regular attendance at safety meetings and site visit spot checks. Load test and PDA quality assurance oversight, including confirmation that appropriate field records are being kept. Periodic witnessing of QA/QC field sampling and testing, as well as proper packaging and transport of samples to labs for further testing when appropriate. Review and sign off on daily field reports.
