Principal Engineer - Mechanical - Overview

Centrica Energy Upstream's Principle Engineer Mechanical within the central Operations and Engineering function acting as the company's subject matter expert and leader of the Mechanical Engineering expert and peer network
Incorporating all static mechanical equipment, including; piping, valves, vessels etc
Provide static Mechanical Engineering input to developments and projects in both mature and green field developments. Lead relevant engineering studies carried out internally and externally in support of such developments and projects
Maintain effective liaison with other functions within Centrica Energy Upstream (CEU) as part of developing robust and optimised solutions
Ability to assess operational Mechanical Engineering problems and determine (with others) root causes, and help establish practical solution strategies
Establish, maintain and expand the 'knowledge network' for the Mechanical Engineering area to ensure key learnings are shared and best practices are used
Contribute to peer assists, reviews and formal technical assurance reviews
Assist in the development of procedures, policies, Standards and Guidelines. Take ownership of mechanical discipline Standards and Guidelines and ensure these are developed, maintained and revised to reflect current thinking on industry best practice and lessons learned
Knowledge management for the mechanical function to ensure 'lessons learned' are properly communicated and incorporated into the standards
Support other functions as necessary with technical guidance on all Mechanical Engineering matters
Manage competence assurance for the Mechanical Engineering job family This requires an experienced individual, who is recognised as the technical authority and focal point for Mechanical Engineering expertise within CEU

Required Skills/Experience: Extensive experience in upstream engineering and operations which has shown a proven delivery into projects and operations, covering onshore and offshore oil and gas production and associated facilities in a client/operator environment at a senior level
Extensive experience of Mechanical Engineering at a senior level in all value chain phases; including concept selection, FEED, detailed design, commissioning and operations
Significant experience in client/operator roles in the management of contractors with active involvement in the application of quality assurance and quality control: including reviewing calculations, philosophies and designs. Active participation in reviews and in particular risk and hazard assessment activities with the ability to resolve complex Mechanical Engineering problems in a range of contexts from conceptual design to operational facilities
Required Qualifications: Degree qualified to BSc. / MSc. / BEng in Mechanical Engineering and a Chartered Engineer
Very effective interpersonal skills that allow the job holder to strongly influence staff at all levels across different cultures with strong communication skills (both written and verbal
A track record of continuing professional development in order to keep abreast of the latest developments relevant to the mechanical discipline and the industry in general
Knowledge of all forms of engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFDs, P&IDs Data Sheets, Cause & Effect charts and safety critical elements
Ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and influence internal peers, internal senior executives and partners representatives to influence decisions or ways of working
A proven ability to coach, mentor and share knowledge with a team player mindset and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
